Out of more than a dozen books I'd bought, this was one of the most helpful. I've bought more than one copy, and shared them with others. Ms. Shell knows what she's talking about. Unfortunately, I know firsthand. This book was helpful to me and would have been more helpful if I'd been able to read it before I came under attack from CPS. I knew what CPS could be like, but I never expected to be such an easy target. Even if one has a 'founded or substantiated case' against them, it doesn't make the allegations of CPS true, and it doesn't mean they are a bad parent. I'd like to see Ms. Shell write another book. I'd be one of the first to buy it. I stumbled on this page of reviews and I'm disappointed that here, as well, I see the hand of Ms. Shell's detractors. Not because it's a bad book, but because they have to take cheap shots whenever and wherever they can. Where else but here would be an outstanding place to leave their mark and convince unaware people that Ms. Shell should be ignored. She shouldn't. Some of these reviews contain outright lies, and I'm disappointed that they exist on this page. But you can always do what I did after reading Ms. Shell's book. Sometime after I bought the second copy, I did a search on the internet for Suzanne Shell. Anyone reading these reviews might want to try the same thing.
I can easily explain the sharp division between the reviewers of this book - those who claim that the author's advice is absurd and cite her being accused of giving legal advice without a license obviously read this book in theory only. For those of us who have been falsely accused and had to spend years clawing our way out of CPS and Family Court's clutches, despite the fact that there isn't a shred of evidence except for a vague, anonymous phone call to a hotline, this book reads like a script of the exact harrassment, bullying and abuse techniques used in our own case and is a disturbing harbinger of how widespread this audacious abuse of power has become. My family is well out of the demographic that most people, correctly or not, would assume to be fodder for CPS and Family Court misdeeds, but our 6-year-old son made a single off-color remark in front of the school guidance counselor and by the end of the next day he was forced into foster care over the objections of my husband and me, and as CPS disregarded both sets of grandparents' offers to take temporary custody.Trust me, it behooves every parent of a child in public school to take the information and advice in this book, and others like it, VERY seriously...
Anyone who is or has dealt with the child protection services NEEDS to read this book!! It is well worth reading. CPS will violate your parental rights, guaranteed, and this helps you to protect yourself when going against Goliath.

I am currently 9 months in with losing my 3 children, the 3rd being 3 weeks old at time, to dcf and placed in my KNOWN child and woman abusing brother-in-laws home. I firmly believe that beyond books, research, laywers, and family, that the most CRITICAL THING NEEDED TO EVER STAND A CHANCE AT MAKING A DIFFERENCE, is building a network of parents, fathers, mothers, & both, to join togethor, communicate, share stories & advice, and pray our butts off as ONE!!! So I beg you, wether youve faced it years ago, decades, are facing it now, or in danger of facing it, or simply just care about children and justice, help me!
