Overall, I liked this book. Pretty graphic at times. These are not cute vampires at all. V-Wars is a series of story arcs (broken down in parts (part I, part II) scattered thorough out the book) about characters who get changed by the vampire virus. The stories are not written in a linear timeline. Some stories happen before the V-Event, and some happen after the V-Event, but they are not presented to us readers in a tidy fashion. The stories go back & forth, makes it hard to keep track.Still I enjoyed reading most of these story arcs (each written by a different author). We did not get to see too much of an actual war, mostly each arc dealt with one vampire and how he/she dealt with life after they changed.I am now following V-Wars in the comic format as well. Especially since Joe Ledger from Code Zero: A Joe Ledger Novel by Jonathan Maberry appeared in V-Wars #6 and should be in issues #7 and #8. I think a second volume will be out soon V Wars: Blood and Fire: New Stories of the Vampire Wars. Looking forward to this novel as well.

An okay read, but the Kindle version is annoyingly full of errors. Also, the book jumps around a lot between stories/authors, so unless you marathon read, you may lose track.While the book includes an interesting concept regarding a virus and its role in triggering otherwise dormant DNA - and the variations in events and behavior that follow - some of the players, scenarios, and overall social commentary are very reminiscent of other stories of outcast mutants and monsters. Although thought provoking in a few places, I found some of it predictable and boring.Overall, it was an okay read, but the Kindle errors were unbearable.

V-Wars explores the vampire theme without resorting to supernatural forces. It’s a new and interesting spin.The book is fragmented and sometimes I wanted more details on the “species” and more character development, but it’s a fun fast read.It has political and environmental touches that are relevant today, for those who value these is a sci-fi book.

Wow! Jonathan Mayberry has put together a great collection of stories here by well known authors. Not only that, they all flow as if it were one story by one author. A fantastic collection that I'd recommend to anyone.On a side note, I chose to read this after reading all the current Joe Ledger novels Mr. Mayberry has published to date just to see how his writing is in another genre. Suffice to say, I feel I'll be reading his entire catalogue.

When I bought this book, it was very obvious that this was a world war Z with vampires. Haven't never read World War Z, and a much larger fan of vampires I gave this book a try and I enjoyed the ride. Some of the stories were better than others, but I enjoyed the over all arching idea of the book. It was a good interpretation of the genre without getting too campy.Can't wait to read more of the series.

An interesting anthology. Like all such, the stories were a bit uneven in aggregate, but each individual tale was fairly solid. A rather different take on the origins of the various sorts of vampires and werewolves. The "human" response was entirely too believable.

Great stories. Can't wait for Netflix series.

What do you get when you take an anthology with a story line using a "shared world" concept overrun with vampires,several highly talented authors, backed by the creative mind of Jonathan Maberry? Wait, before you answer that,add a government who's just labeled all vampires as terrorists. Now you have V-Wars!From the beginning,this story is told through the eyes of multiple characters in different parts of the world. Did I mention most of them are vampires? What's unique about this without giving away any spoilers, are their transformations. What's causing these transformations you ask? For that we turn to Antarctica and a dormant virus which has just been set free from the ice which then affects our junk DNA.Turning the proverbial page, this anthology from the word go, got right to the heart of the matter focusing on the darker or should I say more frightening aspect of the vampire lore. This was one of the most refreshing concepts of the story.(No glitzy anything!) There are different types of vampires evolving, and each one is based on the individual's heritage.The story moves at a good pace and while it does change perspectives, it's not hard to follow. Through solid character development and dialogue, we can clearly appreciate the conflicts as the vampires try once again, to rejoin mankind.In short, This was a great anthology, and it's my understanding it's Mr. Maberry's first one as both a contributor and editor. If this story is any indicator of his future anthologies,then I'll be looking forward to reading them all!John FarrisDead, Buried, and Back!

This book is so great that I am showing women at the gym how important the Psoas Muscle is to the body,the emotions, and staying limber. The information Liz Koch presents is extremely worthwhile knowing. I have found that working out can make my body tight and less limber. What I do, for example, work upper body like shoulders and arms and chest then I go to the mat and work the upper Psoas muscle. When I do squats and work the lower body and get tightness or pain in lower back and buttocks. I go to the mat and work the lower Psoas in my body. If you like to body build this book is a way of staying limber and having less soreness. Also, I have learned that when the Psoas muscle shrinks, fatigues or dries out, there is the strong possibility how we may have lots of back pain and how the upper back can become rounded. I am impressed with the knowledge I have gained from this book.

This is an easy read, but I will go back to it over and over again for reference. Koch gives good explanations of how the psoas is related to other body systems and functional movement problems. "Awareness" is probably the most important word in the book. As a yoga instructor I work to help students make that mind-body connection, and awareness is a huge part of that. In Part II of the book, Koch provides good explanations and photos of movements that: wake up the core, lengthen the psoas, center & balance the pelvis (and leg muscles), and explore the joints. The final chapter pulls it all together with movements that deepen core awareness --- but be sure to read & do the previous chapters first! Koch has provided information and movement that can easily be incorporated into teaching many types of body movement. -- Linda J., RYT200, RYT500

This is an amazing book to make you aware of how your body functions and how to move with much more ease. Liz Koch writes well and is easily understandable. A lightbulb will go off for you and you will notice you are standing taller within a short time. The comfort level you feel in your body will exceed your expectations. I highly recommend anyone with any soreness in their body read this book to understand how the psoas is the "messenger of the midline". You will become very mindful of your core.

The book needs anatomical illustrations to help guide you through.It's too wordy and too out there for me to be able to fully translate the subject matter to clients and it's a dry read and not enough exercises.

Really awesome descriptions of how to be more and more aware of your core. I found this book to be quite useful, not just for myself but also for helping my clients feel how to move their bodies more functionally.

Great description of the importance of the psoas, literally "central" to all movement, standing upright and emotional center. I found the exercise descriptions a bit difficult to implement, would love to attend one of her workshops to get guidance. The psoas is so overlooked and unaddressed in the medical field. My goal is to develop a better care program for mine.

Absolutely learned a whole new category of health. Surprisingly accurate.

i would suggest that the book had more photos about the muscles and /or the body itself. It only makes sense to me, since the book its about the psoas and the location/function etc and includes other muscles and parts of the body. other than that the book is very useful, i love it!

I first read Saint Faustina's book Diary: Divine Mercy in My Soul when she was plain old Sister Faustina, and a rather daunting twentieth-century mystic. The book freaked me out in several places, especially the locutions from Jesus and the visions of the afterlife. I was drawn to the book, but it frightened me, when I had just come back to the Church after a period of atheism. This was the mid-1980's also, when visionaries, mystics and classic Catholic spirituality was on the wane in the United States. Devotional books as intense as Saint Faustina's had given way to more careful, distanced spirituality. So I put the book away.I came back to it several times over the years, and always found much to intrigue, inspire and challenge me. I found it again in a Eucharistic Adoration chapel a few months ago, and bought it for myself after using it to great effect in prayer in front of the Blessed Sacrament exposed. At this point, in my sixth decade of life, with classic Catholicism in full bloom wherever I look, I am finding it a wonderful book to deepen my knowledge of and relationship with Christ. I highly recommend it to Christians, especially Catholics, of all ages. When I first picked the book up in the 80's, Eucharistic Adoration was a dream from the past, as were novenas, the rosary, Benediction, and other devotions and practices of my childhood. Today's younger Catholics are fortunate to once again have ready access to all of the traditional and classic modes of prayer and devotion that have nourished the Catholic faithful over the centuries. This book was made for the ages -- and the Divine Mercy is now coming into Its own.

An incredible book. I read the first edition twice and this is my third time. There is so much here that it takes several reads to absorb it all. St Faustina was directed by Jesus and her Spiritual Advisor to keep a Journal and she did an execellent job. She quoted every word between her and Jesus and later Mary. It was interesting to see how Jesus worked with her and how Mary helped her a great deal. You get an understanding of how much we are loved and what Jesus had to do to redeem us. Seeing how much Jesus and Saint Faustina both suffered to save souls is enlightening and makes you deeply regret every sin. Saint Faustina was told many times to prepare the world for the second coming of Christ. It would be the end of the time of mercy and the beginning of the time of judgement. This book will help you get to heaven.

I'm a Protestant. No Catholics in my family, and never been to mass except for watching them on TV now and then. However, the Divine Mercy Chaplet grabbed me a couple of years ago after I saw it on EWTN, and ever since then I've been intrigued by it and Saint Faustina. When I first heard about her diary, I figured if I was going to learn about this lady I'd better do it right. No paperbacks with tiny print for me, thanks (Not that there's anything wrong with paperbacks or tiny print; I just enjoy other formats when I can get them--books are treasures. :-) ).Long story short, I'm so glad I did. It's extremely encouraging and overwhelming to see Faustina's testimony in her own words, and this book is absolutely beautiful. It even smells good. Anyone, Catholic or Protestant, who wants to delve into God's great mercy will like this. Even if someone doesn't agree with all Catholic doctrine, it's still awesome to see an example of God using someone many would consider "the least of these."

This is a real person's diary . . . and the intimate interior life of the soul of a young idealistic woman and her mystical experiences. It can beread or speed read through with the purpose of extracting the subtle tone of the writer's interior feelings and thoughts. It is a translation and hasbeen edited . To read this quickly without the intention of returning and reading it slowly through is a mistake (in my opinion) . I read it long agoin 2005 and was very impressed by it, although, it would have been useless to me if I had not, first, seen the dramatized life of the saint and understood both her childhood circumstances which give background to her sweet Diary writings, which she wrote in her own handwriting , in her own way, in some notebooks, for the purpose of her own spiritual growth. After her death,these writings were collected, put in order and nicely bound for the edification of us all. Her schooling was perhaps not up to the standard of expression for public consumption but the diary were her own writings in a notebook expressing her feelings as a Sister in a convent in Poland. It is a great source of inspiration to read and I warmly recommend it .

I have a regular paperback of Faustina's Diary, but it's thick and hard to handle. I really love the quality and ease of use of this version -- so very worth the extra money! It's much thinner, with thin pages (the paper is the kind used in a lot of Bibles) and a ribbon to keep my place. Of course, the Diary itself is very inspirational to read and well worth the time set aside to read it. It's like having a conversation with our merciful Savior, who lets us know how much He loves us and longs for us on every page!

I loved this book! The author does an amazing job at telling people who are thinking about going to law school how they can know for sure whether law school is for them. Then, he tells them how they can go to law school for free (by acing the LSAT!). Once they ace the LSAT and get offers of scholarship, he helps them use his Four Commandments to pick a school. It’s a hard decision that a lot of people get caught up on, but these Commandments are practical and can be used by anyone. I’m telling my family members about it. Then finally, he explains what to do once you are in law school, which is really different than any professor or dean is going to tell you. But it could save your life and help you land a job. This book only costs $12.99, but it could save you hundreds of thousands of dollars and a lot of headache. 5 stars!

I graduated from law school in 1990. Much has changed in the world since then. Although I attended a private law school, tuition today requires one to give full consideration of what is realistically ahead in the practice of law. This is where Andy's advice becomes helpful. He offers a perspective that is different from the traditional law school advice model.Part of becoming a "lawyer" is being able to understand, accept and analyze different perspectives and approaches. If all you do is buy into the old ways of thinking (relative to law school), you will do yourself a disservice. Read Andy's book and identify 5-6 key points that he raises. Meet with law school administrators, lawyers, judges and ask them their perspective on those key points. Talk to recent graduates from the university(ies) you are considering. And then, weigh all the information you receive regarding your questions.All in all, an easy read, a valued perspective and definitely worth the cost.

This book is a great guide and reference through one’s journey prior to law school, during law school and even after law school. Definitely worth your time! This book is full of useful information in which you can either read chapter by chapter or skip around.I’m a first-year associate attorney wishing this book had come sooner. As an attorney I’m constantly in and out of courtrooms, meeting with clients back to back and drafting many motions, petitions, contracts etc. One of the advice Andy provides in this book is to observe the courtroom trials, hearings, attorneys, judges etc (I’m paraphrasing). Spend a good chunk of your time observing these attorneys in action instead of worrying about recitation and reading case laws. I completely agree. During the months leading up to the Bar results, I spent time at the courthouse. I learned more in that brief time observing and chatting with attorneys than I did in almost all my classes. Some things you won’t learn in class, no matter how great your professor performs.This is the book all prospective & law students should utilize. There’s so many great advice that it’s worth the purchasing no matter where you are in your legal education.In full disclosure, I met Andy at an event, where he was the guest speaker. In fact, I have seen him speak at 3 law school or law-related events. Andy has services that go well beyond this book. At the recommendation of a relative, I was asked to read this book. I have friends who have kids contemplating law school. Picking the right law school to attend can be both frustrating and costly as all education is today. Making the right decision on a law school on the way to becoming a lawyer is paramount. The money owed after law school can also be mind boggling. There is a lot of advice for law school students on the internet and this book written by a practicing lawyer was refreshing. I am not a lawyer, but it must be intense with first getting a BA, then law school and afterwards preparing to pass the bar exam.What I enjoyed the most about this book is how the author broke down each decision and process. He even covers the question, “do you really want to be a lawyer”. He backs up his guidance with good logic and facts along with his own personal journey to becoming a lawyer. The method that the author followed in his book could be used for other disciplines in the educational process.I highly recommend that all students contemplating law school read this book as one of the many resources available in making a decision.

I didn’t necessarily feel Un-fulfilled when I began reading this book, but I knew I was at a crossroad. Dr. Yusim condenses years of her own search to find happiness without needing to backpack across foreign countries, or even make an appointment with a therapist. Instead she presents various vignettes from the male and female, gay and straight perspectives to illustrate her points. The author’s own humble admissions are described in the most honest, heartfelt detail. This book doesn’t have a stiff textbook approach—stories of how Dr. Yusim helped patients reverse life-long destructive patterns brings the book to life and made me feel that my own transformation was within reach. If at first you don’t relate, keep reading. In Chapter 4, I found myself. From that point on, the message became personal, the reason for certain patterns in my life, despite being a happy person, became clear. The book’s organization made it possible to focus on chapters that resonated specifically with me. The visualization technique in the chapter on Improving Relationships seemed too easy to possibly work, yet, as a result, I found myself finally considering forgiveness. I realized I’d resisted trying because I didn’t know how to begin, when I clearly “wasn’t there yet.” The second half of this book was fascinating—topics like Synchronicity, Telepathy, Dreams, Laws of Attraction, Life after Death, and Spirit Guides are explained from both scientific and personal perspectives, from the most renowned sources. I am so happy to have read Dr. Yusim's book, Fulfilled, because I feel that there needs to be a shift in the way we approach mental health in this country. Dr. Yusim comes from a psycho-spiritual approach with her evidence-based practice. She weaves together brilliantly the spiritual aspects of life with the practical and logical ideas that most people in our field begin with. The multitude of knowledge, personal experiences and outside the box ideas that she has throughout the book make it accessible to people from all walks of life. It is not religious and can apply to every human being searching for their internal truth. Dr. Yusim is genuine, humble, and feels approachable which is a breath of fresh air! I highly recommend this book and feel fulfilled and blessed from reading it!

This book is now on my nightstand, next to "Letters from a Stoic" and "The Obstacle is the Way" because of its unique approach towards fostering self improvement."Fulfilled" sets itself apart from other self-help books (including the classics listed above) by engaging the its audience not just with powerful vignettes, but with practical exercises. These powerful exercises encourage the reader to actively participate in the self discovery and healing process. They also help the reader to recognize and address harmful behaviors and thoughts immediately and incrementally. While not a replacement for a therapist, this book helps the reader think through their problems in a realistic and productive way.No matter what your walk of life, read this book if you are serious about building the skills to improve your situation.

Yet, this book hits every mark for a person who is in need of getting into the underpinnings of their thinking.. Each chapter unfolds in a way that you continually say to yourself, “Yes, this is me.”, or this is a pattern I keep repeating.” As I turned each page, I found myself getting excited about changing paradigms and beliefs I had about myself. This book covers topics including sports, entertainment, music, artists, literary, business, medicine, space, heads of state and much, much more. The index alone is over 70 pages!! It provides accurate pricing, informative insight into market trends and many current topics. A super reference book.

I don't know if there are many people out there who can lay claim to a Louis XIII autograph, or even a George Washington autograph. If they did, they probably also have Jesus Christ on a baseball.My point is, there are listings for hundreds if not thousands of people whose autographs probably don't even exist. The book is good for referencing celebrities and sports stars, but there are far too many pages dedicated to the various types of William Henry Harrison signatures, and other topics we need not explore.If this is the "standard guide" it should be a little more up to date. I would rather see five facimilies of a Robert De Niro or a Mickey Mantle autograph than of somebody who has been dead for 500 years, because you know what-- chances are I won't be getting their signature any time soon, so I won't need to compare it to a facimile.This book is a very comprehensive price guide for today's celebrities and sports stars, which is why I give it a four star rating. But if the book spent less time dealing with signatures from centuries ago, and more time dealing with the stars of today and tommorow (I got Heidi Klum's sig the other day, and she isn't listed-- she is probably one of the most famous models in the world), it would truly be the best autograph guide out there.

Rediscovering Armenia is a book that reads, in parts, like a diary, an anthropological study, or an archeology paper. As one of only a handful of guidebooks about Armenia, it is thorough, engaging and witty. It will tell you what monastery, chapel, or mom-and-pop coffeehouse to visit while traveling beyond Armenia's version of the Capital Beltway. But if you need your guidebook to contain lists of ATM locations, hotels, or restaurants or bars, Rediscovering Armenia will not help you. The book reflects the authors' opinion that a typical traveler does not come to Armenia to shop for designer clothes, eat a hamburger or keep in contact with the office. The best attractions that Armenia has to offer are its rugged terrain, a fifth or sixth century church in a breath-taking hideout, and its hospitable, hard-working people. Rediscovering Armenia certainly will lead you to these things. Armenia, being a country that is far from easily navigable, needs an inspired poet and an artist to convey its beauty and great potential as a tourism destination, and the authors certainly try their best. Most people traveling to Armenia for a week or two are not going to have the time to explore the entire country and Rediscovering Armenia would assist anyone looking to narrow down their choices based on what regions, attractions, or tourist destinations they want to see most. With its extensive background information sections and illuminating descriptions of monuments, churches and natural sights, Rediscovering Armenia is a helpful friend when it comes to doing one's homework when preparing for a trip to Armenia. One possible use is to use Rediscovering Armenia to make a list of places the visitors are interested in seeing and once in Armenia talk to a guide/driver about creating an itinerary. The guidebook is most helpful for those traveling to Armenia for a summer or planning to live and work in Armenia long enough to realize the need for well-prepared and well-spent weekend trips. Rediscovering Armenia is perfect for those taking the time to see everything. As both Kiesling and Kojian have lived in Armenia for extended periods of time, they are able to speak to long term tourists as peers, considering time, interest, language ability, transportation access, and flexibility. This book, that came as a by-product of Kiesling's time in Armenia working as a senior official of the U.S. Embassy, isn't going to help the average tourist find a laundry service, however those with a sense of adventure, a need to plan, time or all of the above will enjoy this extremely complete work. Brady Kiesling's primary intent is to encourage independent travel, but his secondary intent shines throughout the book. Kiesling wants to produce good karma for all of the Armenians who have treated him so well throughout his travels. By writing a guidebook and hopefully encouraging more tourism in Armenia, Rediscovering Armenia will hopefully improve the economic possibilities for those working in the tourism industry from the woman cleaning rooms at a hotel to the man hoping to use his decent English language skills to find people to drive from Yerevan to Ejmiatsin; from the old priest that enjoys showing hidden underground passages to interested visitors, to the donkey that guards the entrance to a hidden chapel - and bites. As a trained archeologist, Kiesling exposes layer upon layer of real tourist value in the land he was posted to as a U.S. Foreign Service Officer. His intellectual curiosity and authentic interest in Armenia are a credit to his profession and create an antithesis to one's stereotypical 'ugly American.' Perhaps due to Kiesling's Foreign Service expertise, Rediscovering Armenia reads like an extremely well-crafted scene setting situation report and is not formatted like a traditional travel guidebook. This could detract from the book's usefulness for some readers. For example, the informal system of using asterisks to designate interesting places does not assist a tourist in the same way that a list of "Must-Sees" would. Rediscovering Armenia is a better read than a reference. Other travel books pale in comparison when discussing the history of a place or monument. Kiesling and Kojian deserve credit for excellent research - both formal and informal, using sources only found in Armenia. Similarly, the illustrations of churches, detailed maps unlike any other in existence (one major difficulty in traveling in Armenia is the lack of any sort of road maps. This book may contain the highest quality, albeit homemade on Kiesling's computer, maps available), and helpful lists of geographic terms really allow an experienced traveler, adventurer, or someone familiar with Armenia to design an amazing trip itinerary. The book is helpful for other tourists, as described above, using the book as a preparatory tool in combination with a guide. Rediscovering Armenia is not a traditional travel guide in that it is more complete and more detailed. This lack of information is actually in Rediscovering Armenia's favor, in that the rapid changes that Armenia goes through quickly date other guidebooks. Rediscovering Armenia may too date itself, but in a different way: as roads improve and tourism builds, the notes about needing four-by-four vehicles and limitations due to weather will decrease; but the historical background and dedicated research will never date itself. To summarize, do not expect Rediscovering Armenia to lead you to anInternet cafe, include a guide to tipping service staff, list the address for the post office, give you a price guide on fax services or name a great beautician. Rather, use this book as a preparation tool for a trip and allow it to inspire you to re-imagine, re-invigorate and rediscover Armenia.

There are detailed directions down to the number of paces it takes to get to out of the way places such as churces, monuments, temples, and the like. You won't be disappointed. What makes a book “supremely enjoyable” to read, as opposed to “spellbinding,” “rich,” or “charming?” For me, it has to be a mix of good writing, clever lines, fun characters, strong relationship building, and most importantly, heart. Jenna Evans Welch’s latest book Love and Luck is such a supremely enjoyable read because it has all of those things. To wit:Good WritingIt takes a very steady writer’s hand to dole out details of a relationship, world, or situation fast enough to keep the interest of readers with short attention spans but not so fast that a story becomes predictable one-third of the way in. At the core of Love and Luck is the relationship between the main character, Addie, and her brother Ian, right after she goes through a really rough break-up with her boyfriend, and during a family trip to the Emerald Isle. They’re there for her aunt’s destination wedding, but Ian keeps bringing up the break-up, which gets him into all kinds of trouble with Addie. Then, she’s more-or-less forced into a whirlwind road trip with him and his Irish buddy Rowan. Addie finds a guidebook entitled “Ireland for the Heartbroken: An Unconventional Guide to the Emerald Isle” at their hotel, and uses that as her survival mechanism, but finds that she doesn’t need to rely on it so much as she needs to learn how to trust Ian, own her mistakes, and rely on her friends and family. Welch peels back the layers of Addie and Ian’s relationship bit-by-bit, through revelations of details about her relationship with Cubby, then wraps it back up again using the chaotic stitchwork of their shared roadtrip experience and previous history. It’s endearing and heart-warming, that’s what it is.Clever LinesSome examples:(in a conversation with Ian and Addie’s older brother, Walt, and their mother):Walt leaned forward, shaking himself free of me also. “Mom, please stop swearing. You’re awful at it.”“You can’t be awful at swearing,” she said shakily.“You have single-handedly disproven that theory,” Walt argued. “There’s a science to it; some words go together. You can’t just throw them all out at once.”“I’m going to throw you all out at once,” Mom said.”r this:(as Addie’s getting into Rowan’s tiny car and beginning this forced road trip):I rushed over, eager to keep up the goodwill, but when I looked inside [the car], the glow that Ian’s smile had created instantly faded away. He had somehow managed to stack Rowan’s items into a teetering pile that almost touched the ceiling. The only actual space was behind Ian’s seat, and it was just the right size for three malnourished squirrels and a hedgehog. If they all sucked in.Fun CharactersAddie is a high-schooler in the swamp of murky self-identity, yet her narrative isn’t angsty or depressing. In fact, it’s anything but. Through her interactions with Rowan, who becomes a co-commiserator in the Land of Heartbreak, she is revealed (to herself and others) as a kind, impulsive, dedicated, angry, helpful Person. Through her interactions with her brother Ian, which could have shown her to be nothing but selfish and mean-spirited, she is shown to crave harmony. In the end, her biggest problem is her ability to own her past mistakes, which is a very relatable character flaw. Somewhat whimsically, she follows the advise of the writer of “Ireland for the Heartbroken,” making paper airplanes out of losses and standing in the waters of Inch Beach until her legs are numb. It’s a joy to follow her journey.Strong Relationship BuildingAll books, when it comes right down to it, are about relationships (all good books anyway), no matter the genre. To take a relationship–a sibling relationship no less–from a knock-down fist fight to a hug, realistically, is no small feat, but as I said before, it’s done in this book.Heart“What is heart?” you say. It’s that indefinable quality of (good writing + fun characters + strong relationship building) + emotion. The emotion has to be deep and woven throughout, not dramatically expressed in fits and spurts like a bas relief sculpture, just for show. It’s interesting to me that at the launch for this book, which I attended at Kings’ English in Salt Lake City, Utah, Jenna stated that this book came out of one of the toughest years of her life. It doesn’t feel like it; it’s too light-hearted for that. Or rather, maybe because of that, between the clever quips and mad dashes, the heart of this book reaches a very universal core: who we are as human beings and whether we’re sufficient by ourselves or need others.Who Would Like Love & Luck?If you liked Love and Gelato, it’s loosely-related predecessor which I reviewed at HeadOverBooks.com, you’ll like this book. If you’re going to the beach and want a light read, you’ll like this book, although there’s not much romance per se. To my surprise, not only was that book all those things, but it was packed with so much meaning! I was amazed by how much I loved it and quickly determined that anything Jenna Evans Welch writes has to be on my shelves!And then, how lucky was I when I heard there was a companion novel coming out soon?! I, of course, bought it and finally got around to reading it this week! OH MY GOODNESS!! What a beautiful piece of art! I adored Love & Gelato, but I think I might like this new one even more! While Love & Gelato focuses on romance, at the root of Love & Luck is family, which I loved even more than I thought I would!What makes this book sparkle is how realistic the characters are. Addie is one of four kids, having three brothers, and I just loved reading about their relationships! They fought with one another, of course, but at the end of the day, they had each other's backs. I love a good story of siblings! :) Addie is a teenager trying to figure out the rollercoaster ride that is high school and all the hills and valleys that come along with it. As a high-schooler myself, I can attest to the fact that the problems she faces are very real today. The cause for her heartbreak is something that happens far too often at school, and it was nice to read about something that actually happens inside the walls of high school.As I mentioned earlier, romance is not the main focus of this book. And that was totally okay! I'm a sucker for a swoon-worthy romance, but it just wasn't needed in this book. There was a little sprinkle of romance towards the end, but it was just the right amount! The family aspect of this book far outshines the need for romance!For being a contemporary book, the plot moved at the perfect speed! Not too slow, not too fast! You start out not knowing the cause for Addie's broken heart, but as the story progresses you slowly fit the puzzle pieces together! It kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what had happened! I also loved how they made stops all throughout Ireland to mend Addie's broken heart. I would recommend listening to some of it on audiobook because the "Guidebook Lady's" attitude was hilarious!By the end of this book, my soul just felt cleansed, if that makes any sense at all? It was refreshing to read and just the perfect spirit-lifter! If you're looking for a cute, summery read but also a book with depth beyond just romance, this is the book for you! I give it all the stars!!!

When I first started this book I wasn't a fan, put it down and came back a week later. I am so glad I did. The book was moving, magical, and healing. The story was absolutely heartbreaking in the beginning but the way the author moved through the story you took you along with the healing process.I would buy the guide book used by Addie because it was hilarious, believable, and the homework worked with the story. The fact that they follow the map and grow as individuals and friends just brings you in and makes you part of the story. I cried, I laughed, and in the end I felt resolved. The ending didn't leave you hanging or try to do a fix all. Instead it was very believable.

I liked this one by Jenna Evans Welch mainly because of the sibling bond. I preferred her other offering Love & Gelato mainly due to it taking place in Italy and having a lot of food references. This s a sweet and fun ride of discovery through Ireland. I love that her books take place in other countries, which has always gotten my attention. The characters are likeable and Ian is adorable. Give it a try after Love & Gelato I hope that Jenna keeps finding girls to take us on heartfelt journeys through other countries. Looking forward to her next offering. This book is fine for readers of all ages. Enjoy your adventure.

I thought this book was super helpful. It is a longer book, but it's useful, and for me when something is useful and interesting I tend to fly through it. It's also definitely worth it. I feel like my work-life balance is much improved and I'm way more on top of things.I was worried about getting the ebook after reading the review about it not having the resources that the hard copy does, but as I live overseas it was pretty unavoidable. To my surprise and pleasure, it wasn't a problem at all as all of the things mentioned in the book as resources on the CD can be downloaded on the Together Group website. Highly recommend!

I have no doubt that the info in this book will be incredibly helpful to me, but I just don't see how I will have time during the school year to read it. Between the reflection questions and making the calendar and schedule I'm only on page 50. It is a long book and I think it will be very time-intensive. Ideal to read it over the summer. I don't discourage anyone from buying it, but it's important to be aware of this before you do.

I have had the pleasure of reading the book and taking part in her Together Teacher and Together Professional trainings. Both are immensely helpful. The trainings, obviously, can't go into everything in the book. I so appreciated the Upcoming To Do List, Tame the E-Mail Beast, and Take Great Notes in Meetings sections. Although I started my career as a classroom teacher, by the time I heard of The Together Teacher, I wasn't teaching anymore, but am still in education. Even still, this book has been a great reference for me throughout the years when I needed a refresher or expansion on the trainings I attended. I'm SO ready for The Together Leader book because I'm sure that's going to speak even more directly to me and my work.

The Together Teacher method of organization is a good one. I, however, will admit I never used it with fidelity as a classroom teacher. This was mainly because I had to make the master calendar/long term unit plan myself and I was not good at that. I DO however love this system as a graduate student. I don't use every single tip but I've incorporated the master calender/ to do list methods into my study planning and introduced other student it to it. We all love it!

I struggled constantly in my first year as a Teach for America corps member. Thrown into a chaotic school district, into a chaotic classroom, I found that my college organizational skills just didn't cut it anymore. Instead of just managing myself, my organizations, and my college's newspaper staff, I was managing 50-something kids with IEPs, counselors, parents, etc. I lost myself in piles of papers, and perhaps more dangerously, in an avalanche of stress.The weekend before school started for year 2, I read "The Together Teacher" on recommendation from another corps member. At first, I thought creating a vision of my ideal week would be useless, but I did it anyway. It was genuinely amazing. I realized I wanted free time after 6 PM, but I didn't mind getting to school early. So...I DID!Starting with the idea of an "ideal week" and moving to making time to regularly plan for my classroom AND myself, has made my first 4.5 weeks of year 2 totally different. I'm still working on implementing many of the suggestions, but I am prioritizing myself and my classroom. I'm happier, I've worked out, cooked dinner, made cookies-all things I didn't get done last year because of poor organizational skills of my classroom and my life.This book has pushed me as an inexperienced teacher, but I believe all levels of experience can walk away with some new skill. Do you need help managing piles of paper, your email, obnoxious meetings, or just meeting some of the personal goals you've had on the back burner? All covered! The suggestions are not too rigid (my way or the highway!) or too vague (you should probably think about....) to prevent this book from pushing all teachers to be better planners. I highly recommend this book!

This is THE BOOK for first time teachers that love the profession but don't love the idea of organization. I am exactly that - want to teach and inspire children, but couldn't organize my desk if you paid me. Heyck-Merlin lays EVERYTHING out - literally, how to setup your email to how to organize the paper streaming around your classroom every day. I've recommended to multiple new teacher friends of mine and they all agree, this book is instrumental to a first year teacher's success in the classroom!

EVERY teacher needs this book. If I were rich, I would purchase it for EVERY teacher in our district. I used to teach organizational classes across the country, and this book will help me be a much happier, calmer, more organized teacher. Teaching just as so many little details and such small amounts of time to deal with them, I struggled finding the right system. I was always nervous that I was forgetting something..... NOT ANYMORE! I created her suggested Together Teacher Binder, and I am actually excited to teach again! I am ordering one for a friend who just obtained her teaching degree! I wish I had this years ago when I started teaching!! There is a CD included that has all of the suggested forms - AND THEY CAN BE ALTERED to work for you! Amazing. If you feel like you do not have enough hours in the day as a teacher, get this book. It will push you in the right direction. SO HAPPY I came across this and purchased this book.

This book is worth every penny that I paid for it. I considered myself better organized than most people I know but I was struggling between 3 jobs, an after school program and my grad school studies. The advise in this book is so amazing I have come to realize how many distractions I had in my life that were preventing me of using my time efficiently. The book gives solid advise and guides you step by step to becoming a together teacher. From having priorities to being efficient this book is an invaluable resource for teachers, principals, leaders or anyone that has a jam packed schedule or is struggling with time management. Highly recommended.
