I bought this for my daughter for Christmas but ended up giving it to her day-before-yesterday, in the lead-up to the 50th Anniversary show. She was so thrilled!Already, she has spent hours with this book, and it's a treasure I know she'll love in the years to come.A lot of time and attention clearly went into the design and production of this book. The pictures are beautiful. Rich colors, great choices. The layout is very nice. The paper quality is great.One caution: If you're looking for a lot of text, you may want to consider a different book. The focus here is on the images, which are accompanied by brief descriptions and lots of short-paragraph text blocks. It's only 208 pages, so there's not much writing here. This book won't give a new Who fan any depth of understanding.What this book does offer is a very nicely presented overview of the series. Longtime fans will love being reminded of their favorites. Those who don't know Doctor Who just might find themselves intrigued enough to go get hooked.

We all know "that" guy ; the super fan that knows everything about what ever the topic is , in this case DoctorWho , and acts like it is all that matters , and even talks down to any other fan that doesnt know as much as they do about the subject ..........ironically they dont usually dont know anything about anything else BUT Doctor Who .This is NOT the book for "that" guy , its "the" book for the rest of us who LOVE doctor who , but have lives and realize there is a world beyond a sci fi TV show .First what the book is NOT : the go to encyclopedia of DrWho , listing every character and tool and species , etc ........ of the series . It does NOT give you a super indepth discription of every episode . It does NOT talk over your head , or expect you to be "that " guy to understand the material inside . This book does NOT cover all the "making of" , or behind the scenes drama that went into the shows , if you are looking for that , you can find several other books , which usually appeal to "that" guy .What the book IS : Each doctor is covered in their own section . each section covers just one doctor , with a brief 2 paragraph introduction about who the doctor "is" , how he compares to the last one , and a briefe paragraph or 2 about the actor who was chosen . Next , each section lists all the episodes that doctor stared in durring his tenure in the part . This is followed by a brief listing of some of the more important episodes that doctor was in with a paragraph or 2 about them . Next is a list of the companions for that doctor along with a brief blurb about the character and when they came in and left the doctors company . After that is a listing of the more important enemies/threats that doctor faced durring his run . This is followed by a brief talk about how that particular doctor viewed/used technology , which is much more interesting than it sounds . Lastly , there is a page dealing with the doctors demise and regeneration . some of the above enteries will have tiny little tidbits of trivia about the behind the scenes type stuff , and ALL of it is accompanied by LOTS of GREAT still photographs from the episodes them selves .i was originally apprehensive when I was considering ordering it because it is a new book , and its seems like most of the new books being done on DoctorWho are being dumbed down for kids . I was TOTALLY surprised when i read this one , because its just written for the average fan of the show , regardless of age .you dont NEED this book to enjoy the show , but if you are a fan of the show , it gives you something extra to think about while watching your favorite episodes .The only thing missing from this book was that it ONLY dealt with the TV Doctors , NOT the cinema movies , which i understand why they would leave it out , but it is something i would have expected to see based on the publishers description .let me close with saying this is probably the best DW book i have ever bought , because its just so much fun to flip through and read !

As I am also a Whovian, with Dr. #10 being my favorite ~ David Tennant, I was compelled to look at the book before wrapping them for Christmas! You do receive color photos of all of the characters, where applicable. It shows every doctor through Doctor #11, Matt Smith. It goes through each doctor, his companions, and his foes. In the beginning of each chapter, where the new doctor has regenerated, it goes through a tiny bio of that actor's personal life; describes a bit about his doctor's character and any costume and personality changes. There is a "Through the Vortex" section, describing each season of that particular doctor. This really is a guide. Enjoy!

The book starts where the last chapter of Deathly Hallows left off—19 years after the main events of the series—with Harry, Ginny, Ron, and Hermione all saying goodbye to their children as they leave for Hogwarts. As Albus, Harry and Ginny's youngest son, attends Hogwarts, he is plagued by the Potter legacy—something he never wanted—and, as he's sorted into Slytherin, is terrible at Quidditch, and constantly compared to his famous father, he becomes reclusive and angsty. His sole friend is Scorpius Malfoy, the only son of Draco Malfoy—prompting further separation from his father. When Albus hatches a plot to go back in time to save the life of Cedric Diggory—what Albus views as the biggest mistake his father made—time becomes distorted and Harry is left to examine his own life, his relationship with his son, and how love can sometimes be much more complicated than it seems. This is an interesting extension of the "Harry Potter" universe, but readers should go into it knowing that it's its own beast. Rowling didn't write it (much to the fury and vitriol of many fans), and it is in script form, so it loses some of the magic that won over millions of readers back when it all began. However, many of the themes that made the original series great are still in abundance—love and friendship conquering all, facing your flaws and accepting them—so that it simultaneously still feels like a "Harry Potter" tale while remaining its own story. I don't know what to say about this one.1. It's not an actual book. (It's the broadway play's rehearsal script.)2. As an avid Harry Potter fan, I still have my reservations.3. I'm still not sure who the cursed child is. (Harry or Albus Severus?)4. I didn't like the whole time travel/ time turner plots. It just... you don't mess with time, ever. Doesn't matter what the circumstances are. In fiction, it's still a tricky concept.5. JK Rowling herself said that Cedric would have turned out evil anyway, so it's a good thing he didn't survive.6. I still love JK Rowling and her work. I just.. it's not an actual book written by her. So... yeah...

You didn’t earn the knowledge for yourselves, so you don’t take any responsibility for it. You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could and before you even knew what you had you patented it and packaged it and slapped it on a plastic lunchbox, and now you’re selling it, you want to sell it.Let's be clear...this was not written by JK...this is based on her series. And that becomes terribly clear very early on. Additionally, the number of names that are dropped is astronomical! Anyone worth knowing in the Potterverse is up front and counted. As in main character. The story, the plotline...it meanders all over the place that the reader wonders if the writers had a clue to start with or if it was just to "stand on the shoulders of geniuses." There was no way this was going to fail...none. The generation that grew up reading Harry's stories are now buying their own books and financing their own plays. Their imagination was set free with JK's works and personally I think that was one of her greatest gifts...engaging our imagination. This reads like fan fiction, poorly written fan fiction and not even with any good ships!Your writers were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.Don't do it. Keep Harry, Ron, Hermione, McGonagall, Ginny alive in your memories instead.

Let me start by saying this, I love harry potter. I read the books 2-3 times per year since I was a child. I've grown up with these books. These books are a part of me, I've named my children after characters in these books. I have 3 tattoos, all of which are harry potter. I'm a dedicated fan, entirely obsessed to be candid. I have waited for this book like the rest of you.I can handle the fact that it's written as a play, I was expecting this. I was fully prepared to accept this. I waited all night for this to be released to my kindle (it's 3 a.m and I've just finished). I sped through the cursed child and my final thought was, this was disappointing .I'm skeptical of how much jk rowling actually contributed to this. I get more of a harry potter vibe from the fantastic beasts trailer than this entire book. The plot was bad, almost everything was bad. It was like a poorly written fanfic.It sucks that I'm saying this because harry potter is a part of soul. I went into this thinking it was everything I'd ever hoped for.I'm not saying don't buy the book, by all means buy it. Read it. See for yourself. I'm not being cynical, rowling is the queen of my world. This is the first and likely only bad review I will give regarding her.Just be warned, this does not feel like harry potter. This was not intricate, well excuted, thought out, or clever. The characters were not true to themselves. I think the best way to go into reading this and saving yourself from despair is to read it as a fanfic and not the true works of rowling. It would be tolerable had her name not been involved, I expected so much more.And now I will try to purge this book from my memory and continue to live in her past works of art. I still have big hopes for fantastic beasts and that's enough for now.

The concept of this book is there are 25 plays that use beginning phonics. The plays should be read aloud by children (along with parents or teachers). The plays can have as few as 2 and as many as 5 characters. They are broken down by phonics sound utilized (short vowels, long vowels, other vowels "oo, ou, bossy r, silent e", consonant digraphs, consonant blends). They are short and sort of funny. A great way to coax somewhat shy kids into reading aloud, creating a cooperative atmosphere, and practicing reading in a unique way. We home school 3 children close in age, so these are great for a fun practice in reading. I can see it being a bit for a challenge for teachers with larger classrooms as there is only one or two plays per vowel sound being practiced. So, for a larger class students either have to read the same play, or read only a couple plays per semester. Of course, if you utilize reading groups with five or less children, this won't be a problem.Overall a good concept we have enjoyed so far. I do see the novelty wearing off once students are better readers. Having a bit "to do" with having them make costumes and truly "get into character" may keep the flame burning.

These are great short plays for beginning readers. My second graders really love them. I wish they had questions with them for comprehension!

Great classroom material. I use reader's theater in my classroom and this is great for early readers. The length is perfect for younger readers and they are clearly laid out and easy to use. A good resource to use with a classroom volunteer.

My students love this book of plays. I involved the entire class in this classroom production. Short scripts that are very easy to learn, good for getting struggling readers involved.

I use these all the time with my 2nd grades. Very easy to differentiate between what kids need to improve. They like them because they are fun and interesting. I like them because they hone in on specific skills and are great practice.

I put on a series of these plays with my students and they had TONS of fun! The plays are short so the kids can memorize their lines fairly easily. Also, there's a wide variety of subjects, all of which are super cute. I would definitely suggest this for any primary teacher!

Steve Martini never lets me down. His stories capture my interest from the first chapter forward. He never bogs them down with too many characters and they always seem so realistic. There is always humor in the solving of the cases. Harry (Paul's) partner is a lovable character. I have read every book Steve Martini has written and if you are a person who likes court mysteries and we'll written/thought through solving of the cases then read any Steve Martini books.

The Attorney filled in a gap I had in reading Steve Martini's Paul Madriani series. Sorry that I missed it in my initial but glad that I was able to get it and fill in another piece of Madriani's history. As expected, the story line was unique but did not let me down. It had all the twists & turns I needed.

But doesn't have a good ending. Grandfather of of Amanda won 87 million dollars in lottery drawing and he loves fishing. What he loves most is granddaughter, with the help of questionable characters, mother, kidnapped by her. She was drug addict, partying mother, and she just get out the prison. Long courtroom drama, numerous twists, to find out where Amanda is and who should have her custody.

A thrilling story, lots of turns and twists that meld together with solid characters, a kidnapped child, some really bad people and some very good ones. You will feel as though you know them well.

While I enjoy legal stories, this dealt much more with “outside the courtroom” issues that weren’t as compelling. Additionally, the plot hinges on circumstances that did not seem remotely plausible. Finally, the “twists” that we’re thrown in at the very end we’re unnecessary and had a negative impact on my enjoyment.

Storyline seemed to meander. The kids introduced really did not add much to the story. It started out to be very engaging, then it became, at least for me, very predictable. It took me a while to finish it.

Steve Martini writes these courtroom/drama books with imagination and skill. There is an engaging mix of mystery, intrigue, and action to keep the reader entertained.

The one thing I demand from any book is that it holds my attention and does not bore me. This one did both things and I really enjoyed it.

I just passed the written/Theory portion of this exam (high score too) just reading and re-reading this book. It is all you will need. Do not waste your money on the Milady "Exam Review" booklet. Because if your state is using the "vendor": PSI for their testing services, then all you need is this book. High recommend! Keep in Mind, I took the test in Fall of 2017. So it should be good through 2018 - 2020. But always get the newer version of this book IF there is one.

Good material for state board exam. I passed Ohio exam after reading this book. Practice along with the Exam Review book and you will pass.

It does use the lathe from the first book, as the series is meant to be done in order. The shaper is dismissed by a lot of machinist as being an “obsolete” machine. While this is true in production machine shops, they are quite handy to have in the home shop. They can do many of the functions of a milling machine using only a single point tool. Once you’ve laid out $20 for an end mill, only to break it due to an error, you begin to appreciate a $5 tool you can sharpen yourself on a bench grinder. It can also do a few things that the mill can’t, notably internal keyways and splines, including blind keyways and splines. As with the remainder of the Gingery books, it gives step by step details on both construction and techniques for building the shaper, and gives you’re mind some stimulation in the design and building departments. You can do a web search and find many examples of this machine built and operating, some which are highly modified. There is also a Yahoo Group devoted to the Gingery machines if you need further inspiration. I don’t plan to build this particular machine myself, as I have a couple of commercial shapers already and can attest to their usefulness. Hobby size shapers like this one tend to be quite expensive on the used market, so if you are limited on both cash and space, this is a great way to get one.

This book is good but for those with good 3D visualizing embedded in their brains. The explanation almost purely verbal is not a strength for mechanics which are visual. Good ideas for making machines with simple and available materials. Would give 5 starts if there was drawings of how the parts are assembled together. Of course mechanics can figure that out. But, a good book should make that easier for the builder.

Great guide to building this machine. I am just starting to build it, but have finished the lathe. One or two fuzzy points or mismatched dimensions, but very comprehensive.

As someone new to acting, this book helped me tremendously. In taking a class here and there I don't get to hear a lot about techniques. It's just "Do your monologue, your scene, and we'll critique that." Never any feedback on exactly HOW to act. I got my first extra role as a waitress, and because of a tip in this book about actually committing things to memory, people asked me if I had been a waitress before. My replay was no. They said "Oh wow! I see you looking at all of the tables I thought for sure you had." All I was doing was counting empty water glasses that I was going to need to refill, making a mental notes about who was about to need dessert and actually committing these things to memory. That's it.

Listened to the book on Audible. I would love to do more traditional acting but I am content with incorporating the skills into my preaching. This book is a true gift from the author. I loved it. I will listen to this again.

There is so much to say about Notes to an Actor. I have had the absolute pleasure of being one of Ron's students and can say that of the dozens of teachers and professors that I have had and come across, he has been by far the best and most influential. He inspires his students to truly reach for that level of brilliance that is capable of being reached and to live up to one's own talents. I read this book cover to cover and can say it is a very real, tangible, direct approach to the art of acting. The problem with so many acting books is they are so ridiculous in their lofty ideals of what acting is or should be- but that is all they are- ideals. Ron goes for something much more than this. As his friend and colleague Kirk Douglas said- any actor who reads this book will become better because of it. For all actors everywhere- buy this book. read this book. if you have any care or passion for your art, you must.

The simple honesty of this book is what surprised me. And yet Marasco manages to get to the finest details of what makes actors and acting great. There is humor and a matter-of-factness in his writing that makes this book accessible, easy to read, and fascinating on every page. You could just open up and start reading anywhere. (I actually read it all the way through.) But the more time I spend with this book, the more I think it is genius -- not because it is clever, just the opposite. It is truthful to the bone, de-mystifying, and very, very human. A part of me wants to keep it a secret, but I am happy to recommend Notes to an Actor. Highly recommend. To anyone.
