In a weak moment, or maybe it was several weak moments, of forgetfulness, I wound up with three or four books on Azaleas. While I do that more often than I should admit, it never seems that any one is that "one too many". This is well written, not overly scholarly, and nicely presented. Like most books on a subject, it covers a lot of common ground but has a few tidbits of information that the others lack. I guess that you can have too many azaleas in your yard, but they add such nice color, and permanent color, to the shade landscape in the south that they are a plant that comes quickly to mind.
Azaleas is not just another "pretty" coffee table book but one that is intended for the serious, scientific study and enjoyment of the much-loved azalea. While the book does lack in color photographs, the information provided of both the history and breeding of these plants is detailed and informative. Not intended for light "beach reading", this text addresses a gardener's concerns from propagation to the health of azaleas. The information on the origins and the different varieties of azaleas is fascinating and throughly researched.

This book is fascinating, it contains more information than I can ever use. It includes for hundreds of azaleas their names, color desriptions, seasons, origins, and more. There are color plates, sketches of petal shapes and petal markings which I had not seen before. When I open the book, I don't want to put it down.
