The author, Alex Walking, has a clear, fast-paced writing style that allows the reader to enter a sacred world where sexual expression and substances are used to achieve a higher state of conscious awareness.Walking has gathered together a number of core Buddhist teachings in various appendices, and this allows the reader to integrate the memoir with texts – the net result of which, despite a very provocative book title, is a masterful blending of ancient teachings with contemporary behavior and mores.Those interested in Buddhism will be particularly drawn to this book for its frank examination of the intersections of ethical pleasure, sacred practice, and mind-enhancing substances.Highly recommended – off the beaten path, but so well worth the journey!
Although I have not practiced Buddhist meditation, I adhere to Tibetan Buddhism and especially Bonpo as the most kind and didactic of all religious proposals. Alex Walking narration is completely believable and I can recognize in his descriptions my own experience as both "militant" and private seeker. Special mention to entheogens chapter. Walking is an unprejudiced seeker and his experiences with entheogens are not just realistic but encouraging for those who enter the extraordinary path of existential search in this era.
I learned a lot. I enjoyed the explanations of Buddhism and meditation. The author's personal stories are very vivid. I'll be rereading many parts.
Excellent book. Very good descriptions of vipassana, samadhi practices. Very useful.
Buddhism. No. Tantric sex and “magic†with people physically changing into Tibetan deities. I am sorry I bought this and couldn’t get 5 chapters in without stopping to write this.
