The Divine Reality: God, Islam & The Mirage Of Atheism, by Hamza Andreas Tzortzis

Review

Hamza Tzortzis's work is a much needed and welcome addition to the field of modern Islamic thought. It engages with the rising tide of atheism from an Islamic paradigm, and responds, in an erudite yet easily comprehensible manner, to the primary arguments espoused by the leading figures of New Age Atheism. It is clear that Hamza has spent much time in reading the works of many intellectuals, past and present, and compiling these arguments and counter-arguments. I found the book highly useful, and have no doubt that it will be wellreceived by contemporary Muslims. --Dr Yasir Qadhi, Dean of Al-Maghrib Institute and professor at Rhodes College, Department of Religious Studies.

***Update for Revised Edition below... *Let it be known right from the beginning, in no uncertain terms, Hamza Andreas Tzortzis has really outdone himself with this spectacular "dawah" book - (although I see it as something quite a bit more than just a mere dawah book).A little background info on why I purchased this book: Over the years, I've followed the debates of Hamza Tzortzis with fellow atheist academics and have admired brother Hamza's admirable approach to the defense of this beautiful religion and way of life. His character in debates speaks volumes for his compassion for fellow human beings and his sincerity and humbleness in wishing for people to be guided to the truth. He is not one to raise his voice to outspeak or interrupt another, nor is he rude in his demeanor, even when others lack a positive attitude. I've always received the impression that when he speaks, it could come from no other place than his heart. Of course, he isn't perfect as he's slipped up in manner here and there, but we are only human.I say all of this not to elevate him to a position of praise, but to introduce the author and give my impressions that I had of him, even before he decided to author his first book (which is this one). It is my own personal opinion that an author's truthfulness and integrity should be weighed, along with their intelligence, before someone commits to buying a person's work and supporting them. And it's upon seeing and analyzing brother Hamza over the years that has brought me to purchase his first publication.Anyway, after following his debates, having read a good amount of his articles from his website and learning much, I was surprised and excited when I found out from his Twitter page that he's authoring this book. So I bought a copy.Having taken about 4-5 days to read through it, I was left very impressed and ready to read through it for a 2nd time. Hamza's coherency and reason in his arguments for God's existence/Islam and why atheism lacks a foundation to stand upon has always been solid in his debates, and having collected, organized, transposed, and polished those arguments into this book (while adding a number of others I've never heard him use), he's taken those already solid arguments and raised their efficacy level to quite a sublime degree.I can't think of the amount of times I would come across an argument in a particular chapter, saying to myself, "Man... that makes a whole lotta sense." That's a testament to the quality of the arguments as a whole. Each argument is able to stand on its own feet, without really having to rely upon another, and yet at the same time, the flow from one chapter to the next, from one argument to the next just.... works! It is far from being organized in a haphazardly manner; on the contrary, the chapters and arguments contained within them seem to be organized in such a way that it would make perfect sense if that was considered the defacto structure to be used when debating an atheist on such a subject of theism vs atheism!I think it's only fair that those who are contemplating purchasing this book, know beforehand the subjects that are covered within. Below is the table of contents:Preface - My JourneyChapter 1- Atheism: Its Definition, History & GrowthChapter 2- Life Without God: The Implications of AtheismChapter 3- Adversaries of Reason: Why Atheism is IrrationalChapter 4- Self-Evident: Why Atheism is UnnaturalChapter 5- A Universe from Nothing? The Qur'an's Argument for GodChapter 6- The Divine Link: The Argument from DependencyChapter 7- Denying God, Denying You: The Argument from ConciousnessChapter 8- Divine Precision: The Designed UniverseChapter 9- Know God, Know Good: God & Objective MoralityChapter 10- Divine Singularity: The Oneness of GodChapter 11- Is God Merciful: Islam's Response to the Problem of Evil & SufferingChapter 12- Has Science Disproved God? Deconstructing False Atheist AssumptionsChapter 13- God's Testimony: The Divine Authorship of the Qur'anChapter 14- The Prophetic Truth: The Messenger of GodChapter 15- The Free Slave: Why God is Worthy of Our WorshipChapter 16- Conclusion: Transforming Our HeartsAfterword- Don't Hate, Debate: Dialogue With Islam--- You can even see the logical flow of the chapters from merely the titles, that's how well put-together and assembled the book is. Also, I appreciate how the author uses examples and illustrations to make it easier for the layman reader to understand the arguments he presents, or to recognize why a counter-argument doesn't make sense. Of course, no book is perfect aside from Al-Qur'an. This book contains its share of typos, some more significant than others, however it detracts very minimally from its quality. However, where it really counts in terms of providing a rational basis for why it makes perfect sense to believe in an All-Powerful, All-Knowing, Eterrnal, Most-Merciful, Most-Loving, Unique Creator, why Islam must be from such a Creator, and why atheism should be rejected, could not have been executed with better precision (in my opinion). Those are my thoughts. Thanks for reading my review!*Update 09/09/18: I have read the Revised Edition of the Divine Reality some time ago (about a month or 2 ago) on Kindle when it was first released, and told the author I would update my review to reflect the new changes and give my thoughts regarding this new edition, but I have been too lazy to actually update it until now, lol.So, just how much of a change was made in the Revised Edition? Was the changes significant enough to warrant a purchase of the new edition if you already own the original? What do these changes or additions constitute of?Well, the changes (not to get confused with the additions) are very, very minor. Of what I noticed, he removed a particular hadith which had a weak chain of narration that he used in the original book, which I brought to his attention when he first used it. I respect that he was sincere and humble enough to remove the weak Hadith, as a work of his quality should reflect more reliable sources (that was the only weak Hadith he used in the original version anyway). As for the additions, he has made some substantial additions in the form of a couple of additional contentions that atheists put forth to certain arguments of his, and refuted them likewise. He has also structured the arguments a bit better, where I feel they flow/transition from one thought or idea to the next is smoother because of the additional clarifications and explanations he included which are sprinkled throughout the book. These additional clarifications and explanations makes for an all-around bit easier read where added. And of course he has made corrections in terms of typos and whatnot. But it should be noted that no entire chapters were added. The same 16 chapters that were in the original that I listed in my original review above, is the same exact chapters that in the Revised Edition. In fact, the arguments themselves are all practically structured the same from what I can tell, despite the changes and additions I have already noted being added. So what to make of all this? Do I believe it warrants a repurchase of his book for the changes and additions that he made for those who already own a copy of the original edition? As much as I love The Divine Reality, and Ustadh Hamza Tzortzis, if I am being perfectly honest, I don't believe it justifies another purchase beyond the original. Is it nice to have? Yes. Should you buy a copy if you wish to support his work? Of course. Do I believe that enough content was provided that justifies a purchase of the revised edition, to the point where you feel you are missing out on substantial content? No, not really. However, does it make a book which I originally gave 5 stars even more worthy of those 5 stars and make it even more of a must buy for those who don't already own a copy, or for a gift to a friend or stranger who doesn't know why we believe in God, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and Islam?Absolutely!!Still one of my favorite intellectually-stimulating books to read through, and I imagine it will be for a long time to come.Be sure to look out for Hamza's new book that is around the corner called "The Failed Hypothesis."

...especially in this day and age where shunning God out of your lives is revered and celebrated. This book gives detailed and relatable explanation of every possible question or doubt regarding a Supreme/Higher Power. In addition, this book is not only a excellent source of such discussions but also can answer many questions of even believers who are not comfortable asking difficult questions and can erase any doubts in their own minds. I'll admit, couple of chapters in this book do tend to get a bit philosophical and may not be for every reader but they all serve a purpose. Highly recommended for both believers and who don't believe in any thing... this may change your perspective.

Best way to describe this book is the clearance of doubt for many Muslims facing rational debates that make you question certain aspects of the islamic faith and deen. A worthy intellectual adventure for one to reflect and strengthen their Islam. Very organized in explaining aspects of creation and creator, questions raised by intellectuals on atheism and theism, and the Islamic ans quranic take on addressing those question. Must read.

The only book on this topic that I know of, at the moment, on atheism written by a Muslim. Islam has such a rich tradition, it really has all the answers to any sort of doubt in God that no other religion can compare to. Rock-solid read and I hope more books on this topic will be written by Muslims in the future.

The Divine Reality is a must-read for every young person confused about religion and God. It explains very compassionately and logically the case for the existence of God, evidences for the truth of the Quran and Prophethood of Muhammad, and most importantly provides clear logical reasons for why humans should worship their Creator. I highly recommend this book for all person involved in Dawah or experiencing doubts about these topics.

Hamza starts from the personal story of his own journey to Islam. He delves the history of atheism and new atheism at first and discusses the incompleteness and irrationality of atheistic worldview . The most fascinating is that the book deals with a lot of argument for the existence of God and irrationality of atheism from natural theology but maintains an Islamic flavor from authentic sources and highlights the notable works of classical Islamic scholars and theologians related to these arguments . The book reflects not only an intellectual defence but a spiritual one. Hamza develops a structured case for the reliability of Quran as a Divine book based on epistemic testimony and inference to the best explanation of linguistic inimitability of Quran. He presents a cumulative and persuasive case for Islam in both intellectual and spiritual perspective.I think the effort will be a millstone in contemporary Islamic philosophy and apologetics.

I consider myself as quite philosophical. But I struggle to understand certain parts of the book. Despite that, i am very thankful to have this book in my possession as I don't think I've read any similar book that discuss the existence of God, from a combined philosophical and islamic perspective.

I was moved to read Carl Sagan's "The Varieties of Scientific Experience: A Personal View of the Search for God" (2006) after reading the classic study for which it is named: "The Varieties of Religious Experience" (1902) by the American philosopher and psychologist, William James. As was James's book, Sagan's book consists of the text of Gifford lectures, Sagan lectured in 1985, James in 1901 -- 1902. The Gifford lectures were established in Scotland in 1888 to "promote and diffuse the study of Natural Theology in the widest sense of the term -- in other words, the knowledge of God." Many distinguished thinkers have delivered the Gifford lectures over the years.Carl Sagan (1934 -- 1996) was an American astronomer who became famous for his efforts in presenting science to a wide lay audience. In spite of the title of his book, which was given not by Sagan but by his editor, Ann Druyan, Sagan's lectures include no mention of James and little consideration of James's approach to religion in the "Varieties". Sagan's book is fascinating nonetheless. But I find it tempting to think of ways in which his approach might be complemented by that of James.Sagan approaches religion from his background as a scientist. He takes complex scientific ideas and explains them learnedly and eloquently. He covers matters such as the origin of the universe and of the planets, the age of the universe, geological time, the origin of life, the likelihood of finding life on other planets in other galaxies, UFO's, and much else. The book is punchy and provocative without becoming overbearing.Sagan argues that mankind's source of knowledge of the world comes through science. He argues that the view of the world presented in the Bible, with its creator God active in human affairs, cannot stand the light of scientific scrutiny. He is a skeptic in matters of religion and revelation and he argues that the better course for people is to withhold judgment on matters that they do not know or understand until sufficient reliable evidence is available on which to draw a conclusion. He describes, broadly, in his book how modern science gradually has destroyed the sense of a teleological (purpose-driven) human-centered universe, created and directed by a God with a divine plan, and replaced it instead with universal scientific laws of physics and chemistry. As have many thinkers before him, Sagan examines many of the traditional proofs for the existence of God and finds them wanting. He gives particular emphasis in this book to the argument from design and to the cosmological argument. In his concluding chapter, Sagan comes close to equating the religious search -- in the subtitle of the book -- with the search for scientific knowledge. He concludes (p.221) "I think this search does not lead to a complacent satisfaction that we know the answer, not an arrogant sense that the answer is before us and we need do only on more experiment to find it out. It goes with a courageous intent to greet the universe as it really is, not to foist our emotional predispositions on it but to courageously accept what our explorations tell us." From this book, Sagan's philosophical heroes, whom he mentions many times, appear to be Spinoza and Albert Einstein, excellent company indeed.I want to make a brief comparison of Sagan's approach with that of William James and to suggest that the two approaches largely bypass each other because they are directed to different questions. Sagan considers religion from the standpoint of scientific knowledge. James, in contrast, took as the theme of his "Varieties" the "exploration of religious themes and religious impulses." James defines the scope of his study as "the feelings, acts, and experiences of individual men in their solitude so far as they apprehend themselves to relation to whatever they may consider the divine." Thus, James explored the phenomena and the experiences of religious life without making any commitment to the cause of or the "objectivity" of these experiences, without commitment to revelation or particular religious dogma, and without challenging the teachings of science. James tried to consider what it was of value that people found in the religious quest and in religious experience. He tried to do so, for the most part, by leaving science free to explore and expand our understanding of the world and of physical law -- as this was understood in James's day and as it has expanded dramatically in our own.Sagan's account is stimulating, and it reminded me of how much science has indeed changed our outlook on life -- including our religious outlook. I found it liberating. But I found it offered only a partial understanding of the religious search, it purports to describe in the subtitle, and of the religious life. I think religion needs to be approached by, in the words of many religious teachers, "looking within". Such a search need not require the contravention of the teachings of science, the postulating of revelation or of divine entities, or the deprecating of the value of the scientific endeavor. It is a search for meaning and self-understanding. I think this approach goes further even than the approach James took in his "Varieties", but his text suggests it to me. In this sense, I think that Sagan has only studied part of his broad issue. There is room both for his scientific approach and for the complementary approach of William James, who in his Gifford Lectures delivered the still-landmark study of the Varieties of Religious Experience.Robin Friedman

What if we have a look at religions with skeptical eyes? For example, the same “eyes” you would put on before buying a used car. Even better, Sagan is searching for evidence supporting the origin of religion and religion experience in a series of lectures (Gifford Lectures at University of Glasgow). He lists areas of our capitalist society where religion could provide a useful role. But this is largely a criticism to religion which thrives on the fact that it is much easier to believe than to find out good explanations that can be verified by experiments anywhere in the universe. The good news is there are good definitions of god out there and its is up to you to pick one.

What a wonderful book. It would have been a unique experience to be present during these lectures at the University of Glasgow. The way Sagan deals with difficult and controversial issues is unique and enriching, but more than anything logical. Sagan at its best!

Wonderful book! This was my introduction to Carl Sagan and his thoughts and I loved it! I would recommend this to anyone.

Carl Sagan is the master of logic and the scientific method. He, as most scientists, believed in provable facts, not faith.

Excellent read for those that are interested

An excellent read. Highly recommended.

I can't express how much I love this book; exceptional concepts and a fantastic read.

20 years after his death, Carl Sagan published his latest book. Varieties of Scientific Experience is a series of lectures in which Sagan gave his views on the existence of god and the meaning of life. Sagan's views are mostly in line with those of the New Atheists (Dawkins, Harris, Hitchens, Dennett), but his scientific background gives him a unique and valuable perspective. The first lecture begins with Sagan describing how small the earth is in comparison to the rest of the universe, and how small a role humans have played, even in the history of the earth. He then asks: Does it make sense that an all-powerful and all knowing god created the universe as a home for us? Are we really the center of the universe?Despite his background as a scientist, Sagan has a wonderful way with words. These lectures are very readable, and it is hard not to come away both liking and respecting Sagan. He may have been gone for over 20 years now, but Carl Sagan is still a valuable voice with a great deal to teach us.

"The Unthinkable" by Amanda Ripley is a fascinating study of human behavior in disasters with an applied psychology bent. As a long time safety professional, largely in the aviation industry, I appreciated her candor and insights into human reactions during time-critical situations. She calls on accidents and incidents from every walk of life, from aircraft accidents and fires, to hostage situations and terrorism. The book thematically explores what she chooses to term the "survival arc," an arc consisting of denial, deliberation, and the decisive moment. In my studies of aviation incidents, I can attest to the general applicability of this model to almost every accident or incident, but had never seen it so well analyzed in such numerous differing examples. The book opens with the explosion of the "Mont Blanc" in Halifax, and subsequently uses other examples such as the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, and the Beverly Hills Supper Club fire (p.108,) one of the best examples I have ever seen of human behavior and the nature of panic in crowds. One of the strengths of the book is Ripley's excellent discussion of panic, paralysis, and heroic responses. Sometimes all three behaviors can be seen in a single accident, and diverse examples of all three are provided.Ripley discusses the importance of always making an emergency plan (p.183,) which she emphasized using the example of the Air Florida 737 crash in the Potomac river. Ripley also discusses several barriers to better preparedness, including the huge fear of legal liability (p.211) that is especially rampant in America today. The book is geared to the non-specialist and is accessible to anyone with an interest in the subject. I recommend a thorough reading of the notes and selected bibliography sections, as much further excellent reading is revealed and discussed there. While many of the concepts that Ripley discusses are common sense, some are not widely known outside of safety circles, and I recommend this book to both safety specialists and people interested in improving their odds of survival in a sudden catastrophe.I think that Ripley has done the world a great service by writing such an accessible, interesting, informative, and well-illustrated book on such a vital topic, and I recommend it highly to everyone.

Recently this book was recommended at a risk management lecture, my company provided. I have to admit some of the one star ratings put me off a bit - then I really read the book.Yes, there are some stories that are a little disjointed, but they are the exception and require careful reading, not just "content scanning" to speed through the book. One of the most important lessons to take to heart is the author's assertion that safety people often protect us from danger - by refusing to "scare" us with the truth. All to often fear of scaring people is counterintuitive for survival.Working in the airline industry I saw several truths in the book about safety. I also saw the hard facts about survivors - they were often the rare person who listened to the safety briefing, listened to the flight attendant briefing and didn't try to save their carry-on bag, at the expense of their and others lives. As a survivor I saw many traits listed in this book that offered me reasons for my own survival. I hope others will seriously consider this a book worth reading.

Ripley investigates a range of disasters and tragedies – natural and man-made – with an eye toward her sub-titular question of who survives and why. Of course, in the process she answers the [often more interesting] converse question of who dies and why? By that I’m specifically referring to those who die while facing the same situations as survivors. i.e. Who dies having had the capacity to survive? Obviously, some people fail to survive because they face a fundamentally unsurvivable event (e.g. a plane explodes in mid-air with said person in it), but a surprising number die who could have walked to safety if they’d have managed to get moving – and some die because they play out a mental script that makes no sense contextually, e.g. trying to get a carry-on out of the overhead compartment as though one is at the gate at Heathrow Airport when in fact one is sinking into the ocean while the crashed airliner one is in is being buffeted by ocean waves.Over the course of eight chapters, an introduction, a conclusion, and ancillary material, the author presents cases involving airplane crashes, tsunami, hurricanes, police shootings, hostage situations, fires, stampedes (of humans by humans), and even touches on the psychology of tragedies of a personal [rather than mass] nature (e.g. sexual assault.) A particular emphasis is given to events that the reader will likely be familiar such as 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina, but the book also opens up the reader to events they may have scarcely heard of from the many crushing deaths in Mecca during recent Hajj pilgrimages to the Halifax harbor incident of 1917. Along the way, the reader hears from survivors, heroes, and a wide-range of experts on subjects such as gunfights, risk perception, evacuation dynamics, the physics of crowds, evolutionary psychology, and emotional resilience. After an introduction that sets the context for the book, the first chapter discusses one of the most salient features of whether ones lives or dies, delay. The case of the evacuation of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 is used to examine why some people loiter about while others are johnny on the spot to hit the road. The World Trade Center on 9/11 makes an interesting case because there were certainly people who died who could have survived if they’d had better knowledge or training. However, at the same time, it could have also been vastly worse if some of the people didn’t have the training they did (famously, a huge WTC tenant, Morgan Stanley, had a man in charge of emergency procedures, Rick Rescoria, whose persistent drills no doubt saved many lives [though he did not survive, himself.])Chapter two discusses risk, and the weird way in which human beings perceive and respond to uncertainty. For example, the author describes Kahneman and Tversky’s Prospect Theory, which showed that a person responds to risk much differently if there’s a possibility of losing something rather than only of making gains. (Prior to work of these two social scientists, the prevailing view was that humans were rational actors, i.e. a $100 is a $100.) Prospect theory confirmed that anxiety mattered, and people didn’t just use their clockwork frontal cortex to calculate and compare expected values. (This may seem self-evident, but it began the process of up-ending the precise and predictable rational actor model from classical economics.)Chapter three is entitled “fear” and it discusses that emotion and the various behaviors (and lack of behavior) that goes hand-in-hand with it, including: distortion of the experience of time, tunnel vision, and self-talk. (Panic and paralysis behaviors are each given their own chapter later in the book.) This chapter presented a fascinating discussion with a man who may have been involved in more shoot outs than any other police officer (the officer, no doubt, having a valuable perspective on how to respond in fearful situations.)Chapter four is about the personality traits that link to resilience and the survivor personality. There is a fascinating discussion with an undercover agent in Israel, a man who faced a number of situations in which he had to coolly make a life-or-death decision in the way that most of us only experience in Hollywood movies. It should be pointed out that while we all admire such people when they save the day, the personality traits they display aren’t necessarily ones that we find desirable in daily life. Chapter five is entitled “groupthink” and it discusses the role that social dynamics play in survival, which is often considerable. Some survivors are people who would’ve perished if left to their own devices – i.e. if a more resilient stranger hadn’t taken them by the hand or shouted in their face. The last three chapters discuss three relatively common behaviors that occur in the decisive moment of a tragedy. Chapter six discusses panic behavior. As it happens, there are some types of tragedies in which panic is almost unheard of and others in which it is nearly ubiquitous. Personality does play a role. Just as some people have personality traits that make them more resilient, others have traits that make them more likely to panic. However, researchers also found that there are characteristics – e.g. people feeling trapped but as if there’s a glimmer of hope of escape. [People who know they are unequivocally doomed are often surprisingly calm.] The chapter also offers some useful insights into how crowds kill people that may be useful for those who find themselves in massive crowds like those seen during pilgrimages or at any number of festivals in India (where human stampede deaths are disturbingly common.)Chapter seven is about “paralysis” behavior. Readers may be familiar that there’s been a tendency of experts to add either one or two new “F’s” to the phrase “fight or flight” – such as “freeze” or “fright” – to describe other extremely common responses to severe sympathetic nervous system engagement. It’s common to dismiss such behavior as that of cowardly or milquetoast people, but the reality is more complex. On the evolutionary timescale, there was one tragedy that counted for an overwhelming percentage of such dire events -- being in the jaws of an apex predator. It turns out that if a grizzly bear or lioness is atop you, freezing isn’t a bad strategy. You aren’t going to pop up and out run a tiger or defeat it in unarmed combat, your only hope may be to make it think you are a diseased carcass – i.e. shit yourself and lie limply. One has to train alternative behaviors; otherwise, the body does what is evolutionarily programmed into its genetic code. The last chapter is on heroic acts and why some people engage in them when most people don’t. (Consider the people in the Titanic lifeboats who listened to people struggle and drown for fear that their [almost empty] boat would be swamped with clawing victims. Or, the case of Catherine Genovese who was screaming bloody murder for half-an-hour while being raped and stabbed to death while none of the 40-ish witnesses so much as called the cops.) As with the question of what makes a survivor, the answer to what makes a hero is a mixed bag. While we tend to idolize people who engage in heroic actions, the evidence suggests that the image of pure beneficence – lacking all self-interest – may be mythical. Many a hero is as much responding with a combination of subconscious mind and genetic programming as is the individual who burns to death 100 feet from an unlocked exit – just to vastly greater adoration.I found this book to be fascinating. There are many books on this topic, but I think the author did an excellent job of choosing cases and experts to produce an interesting and informative read -- even for a reader for whom this literature is not new.

Great Librettos with excellent English translation. Reading prior to attending the opera allowed me to once again immerse into the performance and enjoy an outstanding Opera production.

I bought this book as a preview of the Don Giovanni opera my niece and I were planning to attend. It prepared us to enjoy the opera (sung in Italian) without wondering about the story line.

beautiful book. It was part of Dad's request for his birthday - "opera librettos".

Don Giovanni is a simply wonderful opera, but for this single-language speaking gal I was at a loss for understanding. I looked high and low for a good translation, finally deciding on this which has side-by-side readings of the opera in itallian and english. It's easy to read. It has a good introduction and great footnotes that give you a little extra information to take with you as you read. Unlike other companions, it includes every word spoken, so you don't get lost when they repeat themselves! There's really not much to say about it -- simple, straightfoward, and worth the money.

Wonderful.

Being able to read the Italian and listen to the singers at the same time really helped. I used it many times before going to a live performance.

Good side by side to accompany a score reading, I also found it very helpful for getting fuller comprehension of what my fellow actors are saying without doing a full score translation

I am learning Italian. A good opportunity to read the libretto with the English translation. Otherwise a perfect edition. I love it!!

Purchased as a birthday gift for my niece. She read them very swiftly enjoying them very much. They will be added to her collection of Warriors books, re-read and shelved.

A nice box set of graphic novels that enhanced our child's interest in the series.

My daughter who is 9, is addicted to these books. She is ADHD, so having her find a book series she will sit and read thrills me. She is usually into the computer, tv, or video games. It makes my heart proud when she tells me she is going to read her books :) She begged me for this set, and I was so excited to find this series. It was the only things she has been asking for in the series.

I'm proud but slightly embarrassed to say that I'm an adult Warriors fan! Love these books and love that Graystripe!!

My daughter is 11 and loves these books. Warning, your child may become obsessed by them like my daughter. I fear she's going to grow up to be a crazy cat lady living alone in an apartment with ten cats. What can you do?I don't get it. It's cat drama with a lot of fighting. Cats couldn't be this interesting if they could speak. The writing is terrible. She likes it, so we buy it.

Purchased for my daughters birthday--she is a Warrior Cat fan. When she opened this, she gasped and said-I'm reading this first no matter what ever book you bought! And she read this whole series in one day. The only bad thing about this is that as a gift it didnt last long, but I guess that was her choice to finish so quickly.

So, this is my 10 year old daughter, and she loves Warriors! This Manga Box set, she watched me order, and these came today! These books are the first thing she asked me about when she came through the door after school. She's devouring them right now. She will love all 3! They are awesome stories with fierce characters!

My granddaughter loves the Warrior Cats book series. She has the first four box sets, and several of the Special Editions. I would recommend this series for any younger reader, and I have heard they are actually good for older readers, as well.
